Every time she tries to move on to another song, the chorus plays in her head and she switches back. Spotify’s algorithm no longer even tries to recommend other songs at this point. Her entire Discover Weekly is just Let It Go in different languages. She’s listened to the Japanese version 340 times. The Spanish version 289 times. The Czech version once, by accident, but she liked it. She will never escape this song. She has let everything go except this song.
Cold as Ice
Foreigner
The on-the-nose factor is through the roof and Elsa does not care. She considers Foreigner to be deeply underrated. When Kristoff told her the song was “a little obvious,” she froze his sled runners together. He has not commented on her music since. She plays Cold as Ice when she’s working on ice architecture, which is essentially all the time. She considers it a “workout song for my powers.” Olaf likes it too but he doesn’t understand the lyrics because he is a snowman.
Ice Ice Baby
Vanilla Ice
Elsa maintains this is “ironic appreciation.” It is not. She genuinely enjoys Ice Ice Baby by Vanilla Ice and has for years. She knows every word. She has performed it at private ice shows in her palace with Olaf as the hype man. Anna walked in during one of these performances and Elsa froze the door shut and pretended nothing happened. Anna has photographic evidence. Elsa has threatened to create an eternal winter if the photos surface. The photos have not surfaced. Yet.
Frozen
Madonna
Madonna released a song called Frozen in 1998 and Elsa considers this a tribute to herself, despite the timeline making this impossible. She listens to it during quiet evenings in the ice palace and considers Madonna a “kindred spirit who understands isolation.” Kristoff pointed out that Madonna lives in a mansion in London, not a self-imposed ice fortress. Elsa said “we all have our palaces” and turned the song up. The conversation was over.
Snow (Hey Oh)
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Elsa discovered the Red Hot Chili Peppers through this song and was initially confused by the band name. “Red Hot” and “Chili Peppers” are not concepts she associates with positively. But the song is called Snow and it’s actually quite good, so she added it. She has not explored the rest of their discography because songs titled “Give It Away” and “Under the Bridge” did not resonate with someone who lives alone in an ice castle. Scar Tissue made her uncomfortable for reasons she could not articulate.
