Navigation

Captain [removed] Sparrow navigates using a compass that does not point north. [citation needed] The compass instead points to whatever the holder wants most [dubious], which in Sparrow's case alternates between rum, the Black Pearl, and apparently the Wikipedia edit button.

Despite this unconventional navigation method, Sparrow has successfully captained piloted [Sparrow changed 'piloted' back to 'captained' 14 times] numerous vessels and is considered one of the most competent luckiest sailors in the Caribbean.

Changed article title from 'Jack Sparrow' to 'Captain Jack Sparrow'

It's CAPTAIN. CAPTAIN Jack Sparrow. How is this not clear.

02:02, 5 March 2026WikiPolicy_Bot

Reverted: per WP:HONORIFIC, self-appointed titles are not used in article titles

Automated policy enforcement.

02:03, 5 March 2026CaptJackSparrowREVERTED

Re-added 'Captain.' Also added 'Captain' 47 more times throughout the article

I am a CAPTAIN. I have a SHIP. The ship is called the Black Pearl. I am its CAPTAIN. Hence: CAPTAIN.

04:00, 5 March 2026CaptHectorBarbossaREVERTED

Removed 'Captain.' Added: 'Jack Sparrow, who occasionally claims to be a captain despite frequently losing his ship'

If you don't have a ship, you're not a captain. I should know. I stole his.

04:05, 5 March 2026CaptJackSparrow

Reverted. Added: 'Captain Jack Sparrow, who ALWAYS gets his ship back, Barbossa'

The Pearl and I have an understanding. We always find each other.

06:00, 5 March 2026Admin_DavyJones

Locked title. Set to 'Jack Sparrow' per Wikipedia policy.

The title stays as is. No honorifics. This is policy.

06:05, 5 March 2026CaptJackSparrowREVERTED

Unable to edit title. Instead added 'Captain' as the first word of every single paragraph

If it can't be in the title, it will be in every sentence. Savvy?

10:00, 5 March 2026CaptJackSparrowREVERTED

Created redirect from 'Captain Jack Sparrow' to 'Jack Sparrow' — then edited the redirect to say 'this redirect should be the actual article title'

I have found a loophole. This is what I do.

14:00, 5 March 2026CaptJackSparrowREVERTED

Changed occupation from 'Pirate' to 'Captain (and also a pirate, but mainly a Captain)'

Compromise.

18:00, 5 March 2026ElizabethSwann_King

Added note: 'For what it's worth, everyone calls him Captain. Even the people who hate him.'

I was literally crowned Pirate King and even I call him Captain.

I would like to formally petition for the inclusion of 'Captain' in the article title. I am a captain. I have captained the Black Pearl. I have captained other ships when the Black Pearl was temporarily unavailable (stolen). The title 'Captain' is not self-appointed; it was earned through the ancient pirate tradition of 'having a ship at some point.'

WikiPolicy_Bot

Per WP:HONORIFIC: Wikipedia does not use self-appointed, courtesy, or informal titles in article names. The article will remain at 'Jack Sparrow.'

CaptJackSparrow

Mate. You have an article called 'Queen Elizabeth II.' That's a title. You have 'Pope Francis.' That's a title. But 'Captain' Jack Sparrow is where we draw the line? I have SAILED. I have NAVIGATED. I have a COMPASS. It doesn't work properly but I HAVE one.

CaptHectorBarbossa

To be fair to the bot, Jack has lost the Black Pearl more times than I can count. He's been marooned twice. He captained a dinghy once. Calling him 'Captain' is generous.

CaptJackSparrow

Barbossa, you are DEAD. You have been dead MULTIPLE TIMES. You are editing Wikipedia from beyond the grave and STILL finding time to insult me. Also: it was a VERY NICE dinghy.

Admin_DavyJones

I am locking this Talk page. I have a locker at the bottom of the ocean full of souls and even I find this dispute exhausting.

CaptJackSparrow

This is not over. I will return. I always return. Like a bad penny. Or a captain returning to his ship. BECAUSE I AM A CAPTAIN.
