Microphone of Mass Suggestion
Legendary (Artifact)When activated, this golden microphone allows the wielder to cast Mass Suggestion on every creature within a 1,000-mile radius. Unlike the standard spell, this version is not limited to 12 creatures — it affects millions simultaneously. The suggestion does not wear off. People who hear Oprah's voice through this microphone have been known to change their entire lives: start businesses, leave bad relationships, read books they'd never heard of, and donate to causes they didn't know existed. The microphone requires no attunement. It attunes to Oprah.
Book Club List of Recommendations
Legendary (Artifact)A scroll that, when a book title is written on it, causes that book to become an instant bestseller. Every bookshop in the realm clears its shelves. Printing presses run 24/7. Authors who appear on the list see their sales increase by 500-5,000%. The scroll has made more authors wealthy than any publishing guild in history. It is, functionally, a wand of infinite gold generation — but for writers. The DM has ruled it is the single most powerful item in the literary domain.
Couch of Truth
Very RareA comfortable piece of furniture that functions as a Zone of Truth spell when anyone sits on it across from Oprah. Guests who sit on the couch find themselves compelled to reveal things they have never told anyone. Presidents have confessed. Celebrities have wept. Athletes have apologized. The couch itself is unremarkable — the magic comes from Oprah's presence and the way she leans forward and says 'tell me more' with her CHA 20.
Cape of Generosity
RareA flowing cape that, when activated, causes random valuable items to appear under the seats of everyone in a 300-foot radius. Cars. Vacations. Kitchen appliances. The cape has no limit on uses per day. Oprah has never rolled below a 15 on Generosity checks. The party's reaction when she activates this item is always the same: sheer, uncontrollable joy. The DM has never seen anything like it.
OWN Crystal Ball (Oprah Winfrey Network)
Very RareA broadcasting crystal that transmits Oprah's voice and image into every dwelling in the realm. Unlike standard Sending spells, this requires no spell slot and runs continuously. The crystal also generates passive income — approximately $75 million gold pieces per year. The DM considers this item game-breaking but cannot justify nerfing it because Oprah earned every attunement slot.
Spell List
Campaign Logs
From rural Mississippi to the most influential voice in the realm. Every campaign arc is a testament to what CHA 20 and genuine empathy can accomplish.
The Mississippi Origin Story (Level 1–3)
Born into poverty in rural Mississippi. No magic items. No inheritance. No party. Young Oprah has CHA 15 at level 1 — already higher than most adventurers will ever achieve. She wins a speech contest at age 17 and gets her first radio job. The DM notes that her starting conditions are the harshest of any character in this campaign. She does not seem to notice. She is too busy preparing her next speech.
The Talk Show Ascension (Level 4–10)
Oprah takes over a struggling talk show in Chicago. It is last in the ratings. Within one year, it is first. Within three years, it is the most-watched talk show in the history of the realm. She does not do this through magic — she does it through CHA 20 and the ability to make every guest feel like they are the only person in the room. The Microphone of Mass Suggestion activates for the first time. Millions tune in daily. The DM awards XP at triple the normal rate because the audience engagement is literally unprecedented.
The Book Club Phenomenon (Level 10–14)
Oprah discovers the Book Club List of Recommendations in session 10. She writes a book title on the scroll. It sells 1 million copies in a week. She writes another. Same thing. And another. Unknown authors become household names overnight. Toni Morrison. Cormac McCarthy. Eckhart Tolle. The publishing industry restructures itself around a single question: 'Will Oprah pick this one?' The DM rules that no single item has ever had this much influence on the literary economy of the realm.
The 'You Get a Car' Episode: Power Word Stun (Level 14–16)
Session 14. Oprah stands before an audience of 276 guests. She says four words: 'You get a car!' The audience does not understand. She says it again: 'YOU get a car!' The audience still does not fully comprehend. She activates the Cape of Generosity. 276 brand-new Pontiac G6 sedans materialize under their seats. The audience loses collective consciousness for approximately 45 seconds. Crying. Screaming. Hugging. The DM has never seen a single action generate this much party morale. He rules that Power Word Stun, when cast by Oprah, has no hit point threshold — it affects everyone.
The Leadership Institute: Building the School (Level 16–18)
Oprah uses her 9th-level spell slot — Wish — to build the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa. It is not a standard school. It is a fortress of education, built to the highest standards, for girls from the poorest backgrounds. She invests $40 million gold pieces of her own wealth. She personally interviews every applicant. She visits regularly. This is not philanthropy as a tax write-off. This is a Chaotic Good bard investing her most powerful spell slot in the next generation of adventurers.
The OWN Network: Building a Broadcasting Empire (Level 18–20)
At level 18, Oprah decides the talk show format is no longer sufficient. She needs her own broadcasting crystal network. The early sessions are rough — ratings are low, the network struggles, critics declare it a failure. Oprah does what she has always done: she works harder, adjusts the format, and waits for the audience to find her. They do. The OWN Crystal Ball begins generating $75 million gold pieces per year. Oprah is now not just a bard — she is an institution.
Personality Traits, Ideals, Bonds & Flaws
Personality Traits
- •Leans forward when someone is speaking and makes them feel like they are the only person in the realm.
- •Can cry on cue — but it is always genuine. The DM has checked.
- •Gives away items constantly. The party's inventory is significantly richer because of her presence.
- •Reads a minimum of one book per week. Has maintained this pace for over 30 years.
Ideals
- •Empowerment: Live your best life. Not the life others expect — YOUR best life.
- •Generosity: The more you give, the more you receive. This is not metaphorical. She has the gold to prove it.
Bonds
- •Bound to her audience — 30+ years of daily connection. They are not fans. They are family.
- •Bound to Gayle King — the most loyal party member in the campaign. 48 years and counting.
- •Bound to the school in South Africa — those girls are her legacy, not the money.
Flaws
- •STR 10 and DEX 10 — would not survive a single round of melee combat. Does not need to.
- •Occasionally promotes wellness items that the Alchemist's Guild has not fully verified.
- •Has difficulty saying no to anyone who shares a genuinely compelling story.
- •The 'favorite things' episodes have bankrupted the show's gift budget multiple times.
The Alignment Debate: Why Chaotic Good
Oprah is Chaotic Good. Not Neutral Good. Not Lawful Good. Chaotic Good. Here's why.
Good: This is the easy part. Oprah has given away hundreds of millions of dollars. She built a school. She has used her platform to elevate unknown voices, champion literacy, and bring attention to causes that needed a spotlight. Her intent is consistently, verifiably good. Not for tax reasons. Not for publicity. Good because she has been there — poverty, hardship, adversity — and she chose to use her power to lift others out of the same.
Chaotic: Oprah does not follow the system. She creates her own. She left the network that made her famous to build OWN. She promotes books, products, and ideas based entirely on her own judgment, not industry consensus. She gave away 276 cars on live television because she felt like it. Lawful characters follow protocols. Oprah follows her heart, and her heart has a CHA modifier of +5.
Chaotic Good — she does enormous good, on her own terms, by her own rules, and the world is measurably better for it. The DM approves. The table applauds.
“The DM said I couldn't give Bardic Inspiration to the entire audience. I asked: 'Why not?' He said: 'There are 276 people.' I said: 'And they all get a car.' The DM stared at me for 30 seconds. Then he let it happen. Because that's what bards do. We inspire. Without limits.
