Logistics

The Ride
2026 Chevrolet Equinox FWD LT via Turo — $429 before taxes. Hosted by Richard, an All-Star Host with 1,027 trips and a 4.95 rating. 5 seats, 28 MPG, automatic. Loaded with safety tech: adaptive cruise control, blind spot warning, lane keeping assist, lane departure warning, brake assist, and backup camera. GPS, keyless entry, Bluetooth, and pet friendly. 1,000 miles included ($0.25/mi after).
The House
3-bedroom house in Homosassa. Staying with Maddie and her two dogs. Grandma's nursing home is about 1 hour away by car.
Pickup & Dropoff
Delivery to 2301 Collins Ave, Miami Beach — Sunday 3/15 at 9:00 AM. Return Thursday 3/19 by 8:30 PM. Reservation #55088781.
Heads up on Turo pickup logistics: Richard's base is near MIA (Miami 33142), not Miami Beach. The listing defaults to airport/lot pickup, and the calendar showed the car unavailable for the original dates at 6 AM. Glen had to switch to delivery ($25 extra) to get it brought to Collins Ave — and even then the available window shifted to 9 AM start instead of 6 AM. One reviewer noted surprise parking fees at pickup/dropoff that weren't in the instructions. Delivery to your door avoids that hassle entirely.
Kid Situation
Two kids: 1 year old and 2.8 years old. Everything is kid-paced. Nap schedules are real. Expect flexibility and snack stops.
Renting a Car on Turo for a Florida Road Trip: Honest Review
Glen's breakdown of booking a 2026 Chevrolet Equinox on Turo in Miami — what went right, what was annoying, and whether any of these decisions were actually smart.
Smart: Choosing Turo Over a Rental Counter
With two car seats to install and a toddler who melts down after 90 seconds in a rental counter line, Turo's app-based pickup is a no-brainer. No shuttle bus to some off-airport lot. No upsell gauntlet. The car gets delivered to your door. For family road trips out of Miami, Turo beats every traditional rental agency on convenience alone.
Smart: Picking an All-Star Host
Richard has 1,027 trips and a 4.95 rating. At that volume, the process is dialed — clear pickup instructions, responsive communication, clean cars. Reviews confirm it. When you're relying on a rental for a 6-hour drive with your kids, you don't gamble on a host with 3 trips and no reviews.
Smart: 2026 Model with Full Safety Suite
Adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, blind spot warning, brake assist — the full ADAS package. For a 12-hour round-trip highway drive with kids in the back, driver assist tech isn't a luxury, it's the whole point. The Equinox also doubles as a real-world test drive since Glen's car shopping this year. 28 MPG means the ~700-mile round trip costs about $80 in gas.
Annoying: The Pickup Calendar Shell Game
The listing showed $429 for March 15–18 at 6 AM pickup. But clicking “Continue” said the car wasn't available for those dates. The host's base is near MIA airport (Miami 33142), not Miami Beach. To get delivery to Collins Ave, the dates shifted to 9 AM start on the 15th through 8:30 PM on the 19th. The price on the listing page and the price in the booking flow didn't match. Classic Turo — the sticker price is a suggestion, not a quote.
Watch Out: Hidden Parking Fees at Pickup
One reviewer (Karla, Dec 2025) noted she had to pay for parking at both pickup and dropoff — something not mentioned in the instructions. If you're picking up from the host's lot near MIA, budget for parking garage fees. Glen avoided this entirely by paying for delivery to the hotel address. Worth the extra cost when you factor in the Uber to the lot, the parking fee, and the stress of doing it with two toddlers.
The Math: $429 for 5 Days with a Brand New SUV
$429 before taxes for a 2026 Equinox with 1,000 miles included. Comparable Equinoxes on Turo ranged from $281 (2021 model) to $403 (2024 model). For $26 more than a 2-year-old version, Glen gets a brand new car with the latest safety tech and zero wear. The similar cars section showed 2025 models at $356–$385 — so the 2026 premium is about $50 over a year-old car. Not the cheapest option, but for a family road trip where the car IS the experience for 12 hours of driving, it's a reasonable call.
Debatable: Skipping the Extras
Unlimited mileage ($40/day = $200 for 5 days) — skipped. The round trip is ~700 miles, well within the 1,000-mile allowance. Prepaid refuel ($60) — skipped. Gas stations exist. Child safety seat ($25/trip) — skipped, bringing our own. The one extra worth considering: the one-way trip option ($90) that lets you drop off at Port of Miami or Fort Lauderdale Airport. Didn't need it this time, but good to know it exists.

Wendy: Weeki Wachee Pro Tips

“Enjoy the time... the attraction is a great idea. Might like Weeki Wachee as well.” Also asked if this trip planning software was built to avoid uncomfortable conversations. (Yes.)

- •The Equinox doubles as a test drive — Glen's car shopping this year. 2026 model, full safety suite.
