The Review
Dexter made audiences root for a serial killer and feel fine about it. Michael C. Hall's performance as a blood-spatter analyst who moonlights as a vigilante murderer is one of the great high-wire acts in television. The first four seasons — particularly the John Lithgow Season 4 arc — are extraordinary. The original finale was infamously terrible, but New Blood offered partial redemption.

John Lithgow's performance as the Trinity Killer was so chilling that he won an Emmy despite only appearing in twelve episodes.
