The Review

Barry is the darkest comedy in television history. Bill Hader created and stars in a show about a Marine-turned-hitman who discovers a passion for acting in Los Angeles, and the result is a series that oscillates between laugh-out-loud comedy and genuine horror with no warning. Hader's direction — particularly the stunning action sequences and long-take chase scenes — is as accomplished as anything in prestige drama. The show asks whether people can truly change, and its devastating answer is: maybe, but not without destroying everything around them first. Henry Winkler's Gene Cousineau is a comedic performance for the ages. The final season is merciless.

Fun Fact

Bill Hader suffered from such severe anxiety during Season 1 that he considered quitting the show entirely, only continuing because Alec Berg convinced him to stay.
