Iconic Quote
“When everyone's super, no one will be.”
— Syndrome, The Incredibles
What Makes Them Great
Syndrome is the toxic fan who becomes the villain — a brilliant inventor whose bitterness over rejection drives him to genocide. His plan to make everyone super so no one is special is one of the most philosophically coherent villain schemes in animation.
The Villain
Syndrome is Pixar's most thematically rich villain — a fan-turned-terrorist who could not accept that he was not born special. Buddy Pine worshipped Mr. Incredible as a child, was rejected, and spent decades building technology to kill every superhero so he could sell his inventions and make everyone 'super,' thereby making no one special. Jason Lee's manic energy gives Syndrome the desperate, overcompensating quality of a gifted kid who never got over rejection.
