The Review

The Office is the comfort food of television — a show so perfectly calibrated for rewatching that Netflix reportedly paid $500 million to keep it, and Peacock built its entire streaming strategy around acquiring it. Steve Carell's Michael Scott is the greatest comedic character of the 21st century: cringe-inducing, desperate for love, occasionally brilliant, and somehow always redeemed by his enormous, undiscriminating heart. The Jim-and-Pam romance gave a generation its template for love. The show's mockumentary format influenced every comedy that followed. It is the most-streamed show of all time for a reason.

Fun Fact

Steve Carell was not the first choice for Michael Scott. Bob Odenkirk, Hank Azaria, and Martin Short were all considered before Carell was cast.
