The Review

The Newsroom is Aaron Sorkin at his most Sorkin — idealistic, preachy, and undeniably watchable. Jeff Daniels's Will McAvoy delivers the famous 'America is not the greatest country in the world anymore' speech in the pilot, and the show never stops swinging for the fences. It is flawed, occasionally insufferable, and contains some of the best monologues in television history.

Fun Fact

Jeff Daniels memorized the three-minute opening monologue — over 400 words delivered without a cut — in a single afternoon and nailed it in two takes.
