Penny Dreadful is the most literate horror series ever produced. John Logan assembled Dracula, Frankenstein, Dorian Gray, and other Victorian literary monsters into a single narrative held together by Eva Green's astonishing performance as Vanessa Ives. Green's work in this series is the most underrated dramatic performance of the 2010s. The show drips with atmosphere and genuine dread.

Eva Green performed many of her possession and séance scenes in a single take with no cuts, and the crew has said that watching her work was genuinely unsettling.
