The Review

Mindhunter is the most intellectually rigorous crime drama ever made. David Fincher produced and directed a show about the birth of the FBI's Behavioral Science Unit — the people who invented criminal profiling by interviewing imprisoned serial killers — and made it riveting without relying on violence, chase scenes, or procedural shortcuts. Jonathan Groff's Holden Ford and Holt McCallany's Bill Tench are fascinating as agents whose proximity to evil slowly transforms them. Cameron Britton's Ed Kemper is the most chilling performance on television — every scene with him is a masterclass in controlled menace. The show was tragically put on indefinite hold after two perfect seasons, leaving one of the great unfinished works in television.

Fun Fact

Cameron Britton so perfectly embodied Ed Kemper that the real Kemper's surviving family members reportedly found the performance unsettling in its accuracy.
