The Review

Cheers is the template for the modern sitcom. Set entirely in a Boston bar, the show ran for eleven seasons and proved that a fixed location, great characters, and sharp writing could sustain a series indefinitely. Ted Danson's Sam Malone and Shelley Long's Diane Chambers defined the will-they-won't-they dynamic. The finale was watched by 93 million viewers.

Fun Fact

Cheers was ranked dead last in the ratings after its first season. NBC kept it alive only because the network had nothing better to replace it with, and it eventually became the number-one show in America.
