Iconic Quote
“No one says 'no' to Gaston!”
— Gaston, Beauty and the Beast
What Makes Them Great
Gaston is the villain who looks like the hero — the handsome, popular man whose entitlement curdles into murderous rage when a woman says no. He is Disney's most uncomfortably realistic portrayal of toxic masculinity.
The Villain
Gaston is Disney's most insidious villain because he does not look like one. He is the town hero — handsome, strong, adored by everyone. His villainy comes from entitlement: he believes Belle belongs to him because he is the best, and when she chooses a Beast over him, his ego cannot survive the rejection. The mob scene, where Gaston weaponizes an entire village's fear to storm the castle, is a chilling portrait of populist manipulation.
