Ernst Stavro Blofeld is the ur-villain of spy cinema — the mastermind behind SPECTRE, Bond's ultimate nemesis, the bald man with the white cat who has been parodied so thoroughly (Dr. Evil, Dr. Claw, countless others) that his influence is now invisible precisely because it is everywhere. Donald Pleasence's scarred visage in You Only Live Twice established the definitive supervillain aesthetic.
