Why They Rank

Two championships alongside Kobe Bryant, six All-Star selections, and the most skilled European big man of his generation. Gasol's passing, footwork, and basketball IQ made the Lakers a dynasty.

The Career

Pau Gasol was the missing piece that transformed Kobe Bryant's Lakers from a good team into a championship dynasty. His arrival via trade from Memphis in February 2008 immediately elevated Los Angeles, and the Lakers reached three consecutive Finals (2008-2010), winning back-to-back championships in 2009 and 2010. Gasol's combination of scoring, passing, and basketball IQ from the power forward and center positions gave Kobe the perfect complementary star.

Gasol was the most skilled European big man in NBA history at the time of his prime. His footwork in the post was exquisite, his passing from the high post created open shots for teammates, and his ability to hit the mid-range jumper stretched defenses. At 7'0" with a soft touch and elite court vision, he was the antithesis of the lumbering center — a graceful, cerebral player who made everyone around him better.

Gasol's international career was equally impressive. He led Spain to two Olympic silver medals and a World Championship, establishing himself as the greatest Spanish basketball player in history. His six All-Star selections, two championships, and 20,894 career points represent one of the finest careers by a European player in NBA history.
