Why They Rank

Ninth on the all-time scoring list, a scoring title, and the most prolific scorer in USA Basketball Olympic history. Anthony's pure shot-making ability and offensive repertoire were among the most beautiful the game has seen.

The Career

Carmelo Anthony was the purest scorer of his generation — a 6'8" forward with an offensive arsenal so deep and so polished that his jab step alone was enough to create space against any defender in the league. He scored 28,289 career points, placing him ninth on the all-time scoring list, and won a scoring title in 2013 when he averaged 28.7 points per game for the Knicks.

Melo's offensive game was a master class in shot creation. His triple-threat position was lethal — he could shoot over you, drive past you, or spin into the post with equal effectiveness. His mid-range game was among the most beautiful in basketball history, a collection of pull-ups, step-backs, fadeaways, and turnarounds executed with perfect form and supreme confidence.

The criticism of Anthony is that his teams never won at the highest level. His Nuggets reached the Western Conference Finals once, and his Knicks years produced only modest playoff success. His Olympic career, however, was legendary — four medals including three golds, and the all-time scoring record for USA Basketball. Whether Melo was a victim of circumstance or a player whose style didn't optimize winning remains basketball's great debate.
