The Story
When you've been following Fanniegate for 17 years, your blood pressure has opinions. After a particularly frustrating court ruling, I decided I should probably start monitoring mine. So I bought the OMRON Bronze — because I'm a man of refined taste who always picks the entry-level model.
The Bronze works fine. It takes your blood pressure. It connects to the app. But the Silver, for $12 more, has irregular heartbeat detection and a cuff guide that tells you if you've positioned it wrong. Given that I'm strapping this thing to my arm while stress-reading SCOTUS orders, the heartbeat detection seems relevant.
The Silver also stores 80 readings for 2 users. The Bronze stores... less. For $12. I'll spend $47 on a board game without blinking but won't upgrade my health monitor for $12.
The Lesson
If you're buying a blood pressure monitor because court filings stress you out, spring for the one with heartbeat detection.
