The Beach Towel That Weighed More Than My Daughter

My beach routine in Miami goes like this: load the wagon with towels, sunscreen, snacks, and a toddler. Drag everything across the sand. Spend two hours at the beach. Pack up. Carry four soaking wet cotton towels that now weigh more than the toddler.

These Utopia towels are the default Amazon beach towel. Everyone has them. They're fine when they're dry. The problem is they're never dry. In Miami humidity, a wet cotton beach towel takes approximately three calendar days to fully dry. I hung them on the balcony railing. I hung them on chairs. I draped them over the shower rod. Our apartment looked like a laundromat.

Then my neighbor walked by with a Dock & Bay towel. She shook it once, sand fell off, she folded it into a pouch the size of a sandwich. I asked her about it. She looked at me like I'd asked her what the internet was.

Microfiber beach towels dry in 30 minutes. They repel sand. They pack down to nothing. This is not new technology. This has existed for years. I was out here hauling 8 pounds of wet cotton because I saved $5 on Amazon.
