What to Do About It

Set your budget before you start planning. Decide what you can afford without going into debt, then work backward. Every decision gets easier when you have a number.

Guest count is the #1 cost driver. Each guest adds $100-$300+ in food, drinks, favors, and venue capacity. Cutting 30 guests can save $5,000-$10,000.

Don't start a marriage in debt. A wedding is one day. A $20,000 credit card balance at 20% APR costs $4,000/year in interest. Put that toward a house down payment instead.

Negotiate everything. Venue, catering, photography — most vendors have flexibility, especially for off-peak dates. Always ask for the best price.
