Top 25 Salesforce
Apps & Tools

The AppExchange apps and tools that actually matter — ranked by a developer who has installed, configured, and fought with all of them.

25 apps reviewed across 12 categories. From CPQ and DevOps to project management and data quality.

A Note from Glen

I have been building on Salesforce for over 10 years. In that time I have installed hundreds of AppExchange packages, evaluated dozens of external tools, and built my own — Delivery Hub, a project management app that lives natively on the platform.

This list is not based on analyst reports or vendor press releases. It is based on what I have actually seen work in production orgs. Some of these tools are massive (Salesforce CPQ, Tableau). Some are scrappy and underrated (Nimba, Milestones PM+). All of them solve real problems that Salesforce admins and developers face every day.

Disclosure: I built Delivery Hub (#8) through Cloud Nimbus LLC. I know David Bingham, who built Nimba (#15). Every other ranking is independent.

1

Salesforce CPQ

Revenue & QuotingConfigure-price-quote engine built natively on Salesforce

Salesforce CPQ (formerly SteelBrick) is the gold standard for complex quoting workflows. Product bundles, discount schedules, multi-dimensional pricing, guided selling — it handles the pricing logic that would take months to build custom. Every B2B org with non-trivial pricing should evaluate it before building anything from scratch.

2

Tableau

Analytics & BIEnterprise analytics and data visualization, now Salesforce-native

Salesforce acquired Tableau in 2019 and it remains the most powerful BI tool in the ecosystem. CRM Analytics (formerly Einstein Analytics) handles basic dashboards, but when you need serious data exploration, blending external data sources, or publishing interactive dashboards for executives, Tableau is the answer. The Salesforce connector makes it seamless.

3

Pardot / Marketing Cloud Account Engagement

Marketing AutomationB2B marketing automation tightly integrated with Salesforce CRM

Pardot (now Marketing Cloud Account Engagement) is the default choice for B2B marketing automation on Salesforce. Lead scoring, email nurture campaigns, landing pages, and ROI reporting all sync natively with Salesforce records. The connector sync is the cleanest in the ecosystem because Salesforce owns it. If you are B2B and on Salesforce, this should be your first look.

4

MuleSoft

Integration & APIEnterprise integration platform for connecting anything to Salesforce

MuleSoft is the integration backbone Salesforce acquired in 2018. When you need to connect Salesforce to SAP, Oracle, legacy databases, or dozens of APIs, MuleSoft provides the Anypoint Platform to build, manage, and monitor those integrations. Expensive but indispensable for enterprise integration architectures.

5

Slack (Salesforce)

CollaborationTeam communication platform with deep Salesforce integration

Since the 2021 acquisition, Slack has become the collaboration layer for Salesforce. Salesforce-to-Slack notifications, deal room channels, approval workflows, and the Slack Canvas for account planning — the integration keeps getting deeper. Most Salesforce orgs already use Slack; the native integration makes it a force multiplier.

6

Copado

DevOps & CI/CDSalesforce-native DevOps and release management

Copado brought real DevOps practices to Salesforce before anyone else took it seriously. Version control, CI/CD pipelines, user story tracking, and compliance — all built natively on the platform. If your team deploys to production more than once a month, you need a DevOps tool, and Copado is the market leader.

7

Gearset

DevOps & DeploymentMetadata comparison, deployment, and CI/CD for Salesforce

Gearset is the deployment tool Salesforce developers actually love using. The metadata comparison engine is best-in-class — it catches the differences that change sets miss. Automated deployments, backup and restore, and data migration tools round out a product that makes release management bearable.

8

Delivery Hub by Cloud Nimbus

Glen's Pick

Project ManagementNative Salesforce project management built by a Salesforce developer

Delivery Hub is a project management and delivery tracking tool built entirely on the Salesforce platform. It tracks releases, manages sprints, and provides real-time visibility into your Salesforce development pipeline. Built from zero to AppExchange-ready in 8 months with 85+ production releases and 90%+ test coverage. Unlike external PM tools, everything lives inside Salesforce — no integration headaches, no context switching.

Glen Bradford built Delivery Hub through Cloud Nimbus LLC because every external project management tool he tried created more friction than it solved. If your team lives in Salesforce, your project management should too.

9

Conga

Document GenerationDocument generation, e-signatures, and contract lifecycle management

Conga (formerly Conga Composer + Apttus) handles document generation, e-signatures, and CLM from within Salesforce. Merge Salesforce data into Word templates, PDFs, PowerPoints, and Excel files. The merge engine is mature and handles complex templates that would break simpler tools.

10

DocuSign for Salesforce

E-SignaturesElectronic signature workflows embedded in Salesforce

DocuSign for Salesforce embeds e-signature workflows directly into your CRM process. Send contracts from Opportunities, track signature status on records, and auto-attach completed documents. The integration is deep and reliable — it handles the signing workflow so your team never leaves Salesforce.

11

OwnBackup

Data ProtectionAutomated backup and disaster recovery for Salesforce data

OwnBackup provides automated daily backups of your Salesforce data and metadata with point-in-time recovery. When someone accidentally mass-deletes records or a bad data load corrupts your org, OwnBackup is the difference between a 15-minute fix and a week-long nightmare. Every production org should have a backup strategy, and OwnBackup is the market leader.

12

nCino

Financial ServicesBanking and financial services platform built on Salesforce

nCino is the dominant banking platform on Salesforce, handling loan origination, deposit account opening, and compliance workflows. If you work in financial services and your CRM is Salesforce, nCino is likely already in the conversation. The platform is deep, opinionated, and purpose-built for regulated industries.

13

Vlocity / Salesforce Industries

Industry CloudPre-built industry solutions acquired and integrated by Salesforce

Vlocity (now Salesforce Industries) provides pre-built data models, business processes, and UIs for communications, media, insurance, health, energy, and government. Salesforce acquired them in 2020 and they form the backbone of industry-specific clouds. The OmniStudio tools (FlexCards, DataRaptors, Integration Procedures) are powerful but have a steep learning curve.

14

Certinia (FinancialForce)

ERP & PSAProfessional services automation and ERP native to Salesforce

Certinia (formerly FinancialForce) is the only enterprise ERP and PSA solution built entirely on the Salesforce platform. Project accounting, resource management, billing, and revenue recognition — all on objects you can query with SOQL. If you need ERP on Salesforce rather than integrating with NetSuite or SAP, Certinia is it.

15

Nimba by David Bingham

DevOps & AdminSalesforce DevOps platform and managed admin services

David Bradford Bingham built Nimba to solve the DevOps problem every Salesforce team faces. The platform combines deployment automation with hands-on admin services — a rare combination that means you get both the tooling and the people who know how to use it. Clients include NASA, the VA, and Vistaprint.

16

FormAssembly

Forms & Data CollectionEnterprise web forms with native Salesforce integration

FormAssembly builds web forms that write directly to Salesforce objects — no middleware required. HIPAA-compliant, PCI-compliant, and deeply integrated with Salesforce field validation. For intake forms, surveys, event registrations, and any use case where external users need to push data into your org, FormAssembly is the cleanest solution.

17

Jotform

Forms & SurveysDrag-and-drop form builder with Salesforce connector

Jotform offers a simpler, more affordable alternative to FormAssembly for teams that need basic form-to-Salesforce integration. The drag-and-drop builder is intuitive, the template library is massive, and the Salesforce connector handles standard object mappings well. For non-regulated industries with simpler data needs, Jotform gets the job done at a fraction of the cost.

18

LeanData

Revenue OperationsLead-to-account matching and routing for Salesforce

LeanData solves one of the most frustrating problems in Salesforce: getting the right lead to the right rep. Lead-to-account matching, round-robin routing, territory assignment, and routing visualization — all configurable without code. If your sales team complains about lead quality or routing, LeanData is usually the fix.

19

ZoomInfo

Data EnrichmentB2B contact and company intelligence platform

ZoomInfo enriches your Salesforce records with verified contact information, company data, intent signals, and org charts. The Salesforce integration auto-updates records and flags stale data. Expensive but the data quality is best-in-class for B2B sales teams that need accurate contact information at scale.

20

TaskRay

Project ManagementVisual project management and onboarding on Salesforce

TaskRay brings Kanban-style project management into Salesforce with a focus on customer onboarding and implementation tracking. Project templates, task dependencies, and resource management — all linked to Salesforce records. A solid choice for customer success teams that need to track post-sale delivery.

21

Milestones PM+

Project ManagementFree project management app for Salesforce

Milestones PM+ is the open-source project management app on AppExchange. It handles milestones, tasks, time tracking, and basic resource management at no cost. For teams that need lightweight project tracking without the budget for TaskRay or Certinia, Milestones PM+ is a solid starting point.

22

MapAnything

Geolocation & Field SalesGeolocation mapping and route optimization for Salesforce

MapAnything (now Salesforce Maps) visualizes your Salesforce data on maps and optimizes field sales routes. Territory planning, check-in tracking, and route optimization help field reps spend more time selling and less time driving. Essential for any org with field sales or service teams.

23

Cloudingo

Data QualityDuplicate management and data cleansing for Salesforce

Cloudingo finds and merges duplicate records in Salesforce with configurable matching rules and bulk merge capabilities. The deduplication engine is more flexible than native duplicate rules and handles complex scenarios like fuzzy matching on company names. A must-have before any major data migration or integration project.

24

Demand Tools

Data QualityMass data manipulation and quality management for Salesforce

Demand Tools (by Validity, formerly Data.com) provides mass data manipulation, deduplication, and import tools for Salesforce. The desktop client handles bulk operations that would be painful through Data Loader. For admins who do regular data cleanup, Demand Tools saves hours of manual work every week.

25

Copado Robotic Testing

Testing & QAAutomated UI testing for Salesforce applications

Copado Robotic Testing (formerly Provar) automates UI testing for Salesforce — Flows, Lightning pages, Visualforce, and LWC. Record and replay test scripts, integrate with CI/CD pipelines, and catch regression bugs before they hit production. If you deploy frequently, automated testing is not optional, and Copado Robotic Testing is purpose-built for Salesforce.

Why I Built Delivery Hub

After 10 years of trying to make Jira, Asana, and Monday.com work for Salesforce delivery teams, I gave up and built my own. The problem was always the same: the project management tool lived outside Salesforce, which meant double data entry, broken sync, and context switching.

Delivery Hub lives natively on the Salesforce platform. Sprints, user stories, releases, and time tracking are all Salesforce objects that you can report on, automate with Flows, and query with SOQL. No integration to maintain. No separate login. No monthly sync failures.

I built it from zero to AppExchange-ready in 8 months with 85+ production releases and 90%+ Apex test coverage. It is the tool I use every day on my own Salesforce consulting projects through Cloud Nimbus LLC.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Salesforce AppExchange?

Salesforce AppExchange is the enterprise marketplace for Salesforce apps, components, and consulting services. It hosts thousands of pre-built solutions that extend Salesforce functionality — from CPQ and document generation to DevOps and data quality. Apps are reviewed by Salesforce for security before listing, and many offer free trials. Think of it as the App Store for Salesforce.

Are AppExchange apps safe to install?

Salesforce requires every AppExchange listing to pass a security review that checks for vulnerabilities, data access patterns, and compliance with platform limits. That said, always install apps in a sandbox first, review the permissions requested, and check the vendor's track record. Free apps with few reviews deserve more scrutiny than established enterprise tools.

How much do Salesforce AppExchange apps cost?

Pricing varies wildly. Some apps like Milestones PM+ are free and open source. Mid-tier tools like FormAssembly or TaskRay typically run $20-$80 per user per month. Enterprise platforms like Salesforce CPQ, Certinia, or nCino can cost hundreds of dollars per user per month with implementation fees on top. Always negotiate — list prices are starting points.

Can I build custom apps on Salesforce instead of using AppExchange?

Yes, and sometimes you should. Salesforce provides Flows, Apex, LWC, and platform APIs to build custom functionality. For unique business processes, custom development is often better than forcing an AppExchange app to fit. For commodity functions like document generation, e-signatures, or backup — buy, don't build. The build-vs-buy decision should be based on how unique your requirements actually are.

What is the best DevOps tool for Salesforce?

Copado and Gearset are the two market leaders, each with different strengths. Copado is built natively on Salesforce and excels at user story tracking and compliance. Gearset runs externally and has the best metadata comparison engine. Nimba by David Bingham combines DevOps tooling with managed admin services. For small teams, even Salesforce CLI with GitHub Actions can work. The right choice depends on team size, compliance needs, and budget.
