In-House Nature Programming

1 Hotel Miami Beach

Prepared by Bo's Nature Lab · Miami Beach, FL

Executive Summary

1 Hotel Miami Beach was built on the principle that luxury and nature are not opposites — they're partners. The property already showcases this through its architecture, materials, and ethos. What it doesn't yet have is a dedicated nature programming partner who can translate the incredible biodiversity growing on and around the property into guest experiences.

Bo's Nature Lab proposes a turnkey, year-round nature programming partnership that uses the trees, plants, and coastal ecology already present at 1 Hotel to create guided experiences for families, children, and wellness guests. No outside materials. No plastic. No waste. Just the living ecosystem of Miami Beach, presented by a guide who knows every tree by name.

This isn't a vendor bringing in activities. It's a nature educator unlocking what's already on your property.

Programming Options

Guided Nature Walks

45–60 min · Daily or Weekends
All ages

A guided walk through the property and adjacent beach, identifying every tree and plant species along the route. Guests learn what's edible, what's toxic, what the Tequesta people used these plants for, and why the ecosystem matters. Slow-paced, conversational, and deeply informative. The walk ends with a hands-on activity: a leaf rubbing, a seed helicopter race, or a palm frond weaving — depending on what's in season.

Species covered: Sea grape, gumbo limbo, coconut palm, sabal palm, sea oats, beach sunflower, mangroves
Take-home: Nature craft made from materials found on the walk
Capacity: Up to 15 guests per walk

Family Activity Stations

2–3 hrs · Weekends / Events
All ages

Staffed nature activity stations set up poolside, in the lobby garden, or on the beach. Guests rotate through at their own pace. Each station features a different tree species and a hands-on activity. Think of it as a nature lab pop-up — not a children's corner, but an experience designed for adults and kids together.

Sample Station Lineup
♦ Sea Grape Leaf Art & Fan Making
♦ Mahogany Seed Helicopter Races
♦ Palm Frond Weaving Basics
♦ Natural Pigment Painting
♦ Coconut Husk Fiber Braiding
♦ Tree ID Scavenger Hunt
Setup: Self-contained. Nature Lab provides all materials (sourced from nature), staffing, and cleanup.

Children's Nature Sessions

60 min · Pool / Spa Hours
Ages 3–12

While parents enjoy the pool, spa, or restaurant, children participate in a guided nature session. Not babysitting — structured nature education disguised as play. Kids explore the property grounds, learn to identify 5+ tree species, and make a nature craft to bring home. The session ends with kids teaching their parents what they learned — a powerful moment that reinforces the learning and impresses the family.

Activities: Tree scavenger hunt, seed craft station, leaf art, nature storytelling
Ratio: 1 guide per 8 children
Key value: Parents get free time; kids get genuine learning — not screen time

Seasonal & Event Programming

Custom Schedule
Holidays, events, peak season

Programming aligned with natural cycles: Royal Poinciana bloom season (May–Jul) for flower art, sea grape fruiting (Aug–Oct) for tasting walks, mahogany seed drop (winter) for helicopter races. Holiday-themed sessions for Thanksgiving (gratitude for nature), Earth Day, and school breaks. Custom programming for private events, corporate retreats, and wellness groups.

Staff TrainingIncluded

Nature Lab provides a one-time training session for 1 Hotel concierge and guest services staff. After training, staff can confidently answer basic guest questions about the property's trees and landscaping — adding a layer of knowledge that reinforces the 1 Hotel brand promise.

What This Is Not

×Not messy. No finger painting, glitter, glue, or cleanup headaches.
×Not cheap-looking. No dollar-store craft supplies. Materials are natural and beautiful.
×Not just for kids. Parents, couples, and solo travelers all enjoy guided walks and nature activities.
×Not a vendor cart or booth. This integrates seamlessly into the property — no signage clutter.
×Not seasonal-dependent. Miami Beach has year-round growing cycles — there's always something in bloom, fruiting, or dropping.

Proposed Structure

Option A
Flat Monthly Retainer

Fixed monthly fee covers a set number of walks, activity sessions, and on-call availability. Hotel has predictable costs; Nature Lab has stable revenue.

Option B
Per-Session Booking

Hotel books sessions on an as-needed basis at per-session rates. Flexible for seasonal demand. Sessions can be offered as complimentary amenities or add-on guest experiences.

Option C
Revenue Share

Nature walks and activities offered as a premium guest experience at a per-person rate. Revenue split between hotel and Nature Lab. Guests see it as an exclusive, curated experience — which it is.

All options include staff training, materials, and cleanup at no additional cost.

Guest Impact

A family checks in on Friday. Saturday morning, they join a guided nature walk. Their kids learn that the huge round leaves are sea grapes — and that they can be used as plates. They make leaf fans. They race mahogany seed helicopters. They learn that the red peeling tree is called the “tourist tree” because it looks sunburned.

For the rest of their trip, every walk on the beach becomes a nature lesson. The kids point out trees to their parents. They collect fallen seeds. They notice things they never would have seen.

That family tells every friend about their stay. Not because of the pool or the room — because their kids learned something real from the actual place they visited. That's the kind of experience that builds loyalty and word-of-mouth.

Digital Tree GuideIncluded

Every guest gets access to the digital Miami Beach Tree & Plant Guide at glenbradford.com/bo/trees. It includes all 15 species, identification tips, ecological information, and activities they can do on their own. A QR code on the property or in-room materials links directly to the guide.

The guide can be co-branded with 1 Hotel branding for the partnership.

About Bo's Nature Lab

Bo's Nature Lab is a Miami Beach-based nature education practice focused on connecting people — especially families — with the urban forest and coastal ecology of South Florida. We run free 6-week programs at the Miami Beach Regional Library, nature-themed birthday parties, summer camps, and community events.

Our approach is simple: use what's already growing. No kits, no manufactured supplies, no plastic. Every activity is sourced from the natural environment, is mess-free, and works for all ages. We believe the best way to inspire environmental stewardship is to help people actually know the trees and plants they walk past every day.
