After being successfully unpublished for one newsletter, I figure I’ll give it another shot. Honestly, odds are that these article is ‘lost.’ I am supposed to cover current events. I don’t spend time learning about much at all, but I would like to think I can talk freely about money and how not to waste it. I’ve been known to do some pretty daredevil things, like find a mattress set in the dumpster and turn around to sell it.
So, I just wrote a huge article about nothing and deleted it. It’s time to write about what you people wanna read. People like stories of failure, because they can relate. Hey, that’s why I like watching the Cubs. Well, my latest failure, I’ll call the carpool scandal. Essentiallly, I found myself in an apartment complex, where within the same 10 parking spots, the same 6 cars were going to GE’s buildings 1,2, and 3 at around 8 am plus or minus 30 minutes. These cars were also traveling back to those starting spots around 5 pm.
The best part about it was that each car had one driver, no passengers. If I was forced to estimate, I would estimate that on average, these cars held about 4 people comfortably. No one wants to ride in a middle seat.
So, I began exploiting this one Monday morning where I just sat outside at 7:30am, and waited for the first person to show up; essentially a ‘slow race.’ A slow race is where the fastest person loses. Then, at 5pm, I would go stand outside of building 2 and keep an eye out for people heading back to my apartment. I saw this as being green, and unproblematic. Nobody would ever wait on me. Essentially very lean. I was wrong.
Boy was I wrong. Within a week, I was protested. The individuals I was riding along with were upset that I was getting a ‘free ride’ and had conspired against me; wanting me to drive myself, preferring the situation of 6 individuals driving to and from the same place separately every single day. Oh, the horror of inconvenience. Yes, I was an inconvenience, a burden, a pain in the neck. I tried buying presents for these individuals I had offended.
So, to those people out there that like to carpool; don’t even think about it. If you really are looking for an option, you might consider riding the bus. It’s very dependible and the bus driver won’t conspire against you.
